Lebanese Cuisine

What can we say about Lebanese food? :)

Generally speaking the Lebanese cuisine is very healthy with lots of fish, poultry and to a lesser extend red meat, vegetables and fruits locally produced and filled with lots of herbs and spices, garlic and olive oil, often seasoned by lemon juice. Most often foods are either grilled, baked or sauted in olive oil... Great earthy flavors..

Our typically traditional cuisine style is what we call "Mezzah" which could include dozens of small dishes, i.e. Mutabbal/Babaghanoush, Hummus, Hummus with meat (hummus bi'l-lahm), Kibbeh, Kibbe Nayye, Sausages (maqaniq), Spicy sausages (sujuq), whole roasted young birds, Yoghurt, Labneh, Shanklish, Kishkeh, Muhammara, Tabbouleh, Fattoush, Rocket salad (salatat jarjir), Artichoke salad, ...

Our national drink is the Arak which is a clear, colourless, unsweetened aniseed-flavoured distilled alcoholic drink made from grapes. Arak is usually not drunk straight, but is mixed in approximately 1/3 arak to 2/3 water, and ice is then added. This dilution causes the clear liquor to turn an opaque milky-white colour.
